Canoe Trailers

There are currently 2 canoe trailers available for rent through the council. One is complete from a restoration and outfitting perspective and the 2nd one is a work in progress (details below), but can be used as-is. Both are roadworthy for long trips. We plan to have 3 fully restored and outfitted by the summer of 2026.
The canoe trailers are stored at McNeil Scout Ranch at Peaceful Valley and the cost for each outfitted trailer is $40 per day – which applies the entire time you have it. Those fees go toward the upkeep and upgrading of the equipment.
The Blue Trailer is equipped with:
  • 6 canoes
  • 15-20 paddles of varying sizes
  • 15 PFDs, but it is advisable that units have supply some of their own to ensure everyone has the right size
  • Additional gear such as bowlines, etc.
  • Storage space for water jugs, etc.
At this time, the Black Trailer is set up to haul 8 canoes, but does not have the means of carrying paddles and life jackets. Also, those items are not readily available for it and we are working on a solution.
Each outfitted trailer weighs roughly 1500-2500 lbs, and can be pulled by most vehicles with a V6 engine or better and a 2″ receiver.
Requirements for renting the trailers:
  • One of the adult leaders at the unit’s event has the Aquatics Supervision certifications (Swimming & Water Rescue and Paddle craft Safety). We will be listing dates soon for next year. If you have 4 or more people who would like to attend, send an email to ship324@scouts324.com for more info.
  • The vehicle driver needs to have experience towing a trailer, as they are responsible for it and its contents as soon as it is attached to their vehicle.
Russ is tracking reservations as they are booked and has dates of availability. If you would like to reserve one (or both) trailers, where you will be taking them, and when you would like to pick it up and return, please email ship324@scouts324.com.
