Training
Empowering Leaders. Enriching Youth. Strengthening Scouting.
At Scouting Colorado, we believe trained leaders deliver the best possible program to our Scouts. Whether you’re a new volunteer or a seasoned Scouter, there’s always more to learn, share, and experience.
Step One: Required Training
S.A.F.E.Guarding Youth Training (YPT) Every registered adult must complete before participating in any Scouting activity. YPT is available online and must be renewed every two years. Start at my.scouting.org and visit the Training Center to access your required courses.

Position-specific training ensures you’re ready for your role. Need to know what the requirements are to be trained for your unit leadership role? This Position-Trained Requirements sheet will help explain the training requirements for the various leadership roles listed below:
- Cub Scout Leaders: Den Leader, Cubmaster, Pack Committee
- Scouts BSA Leaders: Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmaster, Committee Member
- Venturing, Sea Scouts, Exploring Advisors
- Merit Badge Counselors
Adult leaders in units are considered “trained” and eligible to wear the official Trained emblem when they have completed Youth Protection Training and the training courses required for their specific position. Every youth deserves trained adult leaders!
